“What do farm girls wear when they go to a farmers market?”, “Do farmers even wear makeup?” I hear you all say…
Ok, ok so I don’t hear you all say that but it’s something I’ve been asked on numerous occasions. Well the answer is yes, I wear makeup! So what exactly do I put on my face for a day at the market followed by an afternoon at the farm?
First things first, I put my moisturiser on, full details of this can be found here.
I always do my eyebrows before I apply any makeup, for this I use Anastasia Beverley Hills (ABH), Dipbrow Pomade, in the colour Granite. I apply this with my ABH duo brush #12. I then go around the edge with my Illamasqua, Skin Base Lift Concealer, in the shade Light 2. This stuff is perfect for carving out and cleaning up the edges of your brows. I just use an Illamasqua angled brush for this. I go through my brows afterwards with the Benefit, Gimme Brow, just to hold them in place for the day. This also has little fibres in to help fill out the brow. My Gimme Brow is slightly lighter in colour than my actual eyebrow colour so it gives it more of a 3D effect. You can buy both the dipbrow and the concealer from Beauty Bay and the Benefit, Gimme Brow, from either Debenhams or Benefit website.
Next on the list is primer, I have lots of different primers that I’ll mention in future posts, but one of my most loved primers that I use is the Becca, Backlight Priming Filter. This stuff gives you such a natural glow on the skin, it’s beautiful. I normally leave this for around 2 minutes to soak in or until it feels slightly tacky.
Once my skin is all primed, I use my Illamasqua, Skin Base Foundation, in the shade 6.5. This is my go to foundation for days spent on the farm. I could talk about this foundation to you all day, but I won’t, I’ll save it for another time. All I will say is, you have to buy it! It’s amazing! I normally apply this foundation by dabbing it all over my face and then blending it out with my Artis, Oval 8, brush. This brush makes foundation application SO easy. I’ve never used a brush like it. You can get it directly from the Artis website or from Space NK, which is where I purchased my set. I always spray my face with MAC, Fix +, and dab all over with a damp Beauty Blender. This just sets the foundation.
Before applying anything else to my skin I move onto eyes. I don’t really put any eye makeup on for days like this, I normally just use my MAC Paint Pot in the colour Soft Ochre and press all over my eyelid with my Beauty Blender. I set it using either a pale/neutral eyeshadow or my Laura Mercier, Translucent Loose Setting Powder, and then just buff that all over the lid and under the eye in the areas that may crease. Once I’ve done that I put Benefits, Hoola Bronzing Powder, into the crease and then just press NARS, Dual Intesity eyeshadow, in Callisto onto the lid. I finish it off by curling my lashes and popping some mascara on, either Urban Decay, Perversion or MAC, Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash.
Moving back to skin, I tend to just apply a bit of my NARS Bronzing Powder in the shade Laguna followed by a touch of highlighter. The highlighter I use is normally my Bobbi Brown, Shimmer Brick, in the shade Beige. This highlighter is subtle but still gives you a lovely glow. I normally love loads of highlighter but when I’m just around the farm I go for this. To finish it all of, I just spray my face again with the MAC Fix + just to set and ‘melt’ everything together.
So, how well does this wear for a day out with the farmers and an afternoon back on the farm? Well, let’s take Tuesday as an example. I spent a good 4 hours at a cattle market, followed by an afternoon bottle feeding 8 orphan lambs and giving milk to the 4 new calves that we had just bought and then bottle feeding the lambs again later that evening. To say we were busy was an understatement… what was supposed to be an early Easter dinner turned out to be a very late Easter tea at around 8:30 pm that night.
Did my makeup last?
Yep, when I looked in the mirror that night ALL of it was still intact. My eyebrows hadn’t budged and my foundation was still all on. The only bit that had come off was a small patch on the side of my nose, but that’s only because I had spent so much time wiping it from being outside in the cold! Some foundations can go patchy when they are on for long periods of time but this never does, I know I can rely on this foundation to stay put all day. I applied this foundation at 7:30 am and removed it at 10.20 pm… not bad at all if you ask me!
So if your looking for a face that lasts all day through all types of weather and activities then this is your go to. I have normal skin but I’m pretty confident this type of makeup could be worn on any skin type. The foundation, particularly, is great for all skin types and needless to say, I don’t just save this for farm work… I do in fact wear it to go out in too. I have linked all the products to the places that I personally bought them from. You can obviously buy them direct from the branded website but they aren’t always UK based.
If you guys have any recommendations then let me know in the comments. I’d love to know what you all think and what you want me to tell you or show you for next time!
